Benefits of CBD Oil for Dogs
There’s nothing that matches simply enjoying the outdoors with your dog. But what if your dog doesn’t quite move like they used to? What if they’re aging and not quite keeping up like before?
At VETCBD Hemp, we get it. We want the best for your dog, and not just when it comes to getting outside for some fresh air, but for their overall health in general like when they’re relaxing inside on the couch with you.
With that said, we’re pet parents, too, not just veterinarians, and have developed a cannabidiol oil (commonly known as CBD) supplement that we’ve formulated especially for pets.
Our VETCBD Hemp Oil features natural ingredients and is made from premium-quality American hemp rich in phytocannabinoids to support optimal well-being and health. Our products are made just for pets! We even offer free veterinary nurse support by phone or email. Our primary concern is your pet’s health and safety.
Here at VETCBD Hemp , our cannabinoid-rich hemp is 100% organic, vegan-friendly, and grown in full compliance with the Department of Agriculture’s industrial hemp laws, ensuring there is less than 0.3% THC in the final blend. Our full spectrum cannabidiol products for animals are triple-tested and made with premium-quality, natural ingredients, without preservatives or additives.
The most common reasons pet parents use VETCBD Hemp are to help maintain calm, support joint mobility, support normal brain function, and maintain normal GI health. CBD has been shown to help support dogs holistically and is easy to add to most health and wellness regimens.
As we all appreciate the power of CBD as a natural supplement, it’s good to keep in mind that your dog’s health is key and that cannabidiol is not going to replace regular veterinary care, but it’s a wonderful aid to help support your dog’s overall health.
What is CBD for Dogs?
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), cannabidiol is a compound found in cannabis and hemp. The AKC explains that CBD oil does not contain delta-9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound responsible for being psychoactive.
Because of the huge interest in CBD today stemming from global research, it’s important that pet parents understand CBD’s uses and efficacies and the importance of taking a peek at the certificate of analysis (COA). Lab results can usually be downloaded and are sometimes listed beneath pet CBD products when sold online. This allows for full disclosure and transparency for each CBD product. The COA is a report that is issued by an independent 3rd party to show results from testing.
Reliable, high-quality CBD oils may have numerous health benefits. This is because cannabidiol can help support the endocannabinoid system which moderates anything from mood to nervous system function.
Studies demonstrate that CBD may be good for the following:
- GI health
- Nervous system health
- Mood and emotional wellness
- Joint health
- Calming and relaxation
When learning about the benefits of cannabinoids, we often learn about the endocannabinoid system which was discovered by Dr. Ralph Mechoulam in 1992 . His research entailed how CB1 and CB2 receptors within this system bond with cannabinoids found in the cannabis-sativa plant . His research showed that CB1 receptors bind with THC, while CB2 receptors link up with CBD. CB2 receptors are located in the peripheral tissue and the immune system in both animals and people. Research demonstrates that the spleen contains the highest amount of CB2 receptors.
If CB2 receptors are stimulated with a high-quality, non-THC CBD, there’s no intoxicating effect and no “high” involved, but systems linked to these receptors such as mood and the nervous system can still experience good benefits.
Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil
Today, there’s plenty of talk about hemp and the benefits dogs can get from full-spectrum hemp oil. You may even get confused about the differences between hemp oil, CBD oil, CBD hemp oil, or even cannabidiol oil and hemp extracts for pets, but know that these terms are mostly interchangeable and mean the same thing (except when it comes to hemp seed oil, that is a different extraction with different benefits completely).
Full-spectrum hemp oil includes the cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes that are extracted from industrial hemp without a high level of THC. These hemp-derived extracts contain less than 0.3% THC in dry weight and offer other cannabinoids and terpenes for health benefits without the risk of intoxicating your pet.
Because there are so many hemp-derived CBD products on the market today, the FDA has started looking into all these products. There have been inaccurate labeling cases and misrepresentation of CBD levels, with some containing no CBD at all, but confusing consumers into thinking they do with the use of the word “hemp.”
Studies demonstrate that out of the 84 products analyzed, 70% were mislabeled regarding CBD content. The FDA also adds that some of these products did not contain the described amount of CBD after testing numerous CBD products. With that said, the FDA encourages people to look into CBD products when purchasing or using any of these products.
With so many CBD brands, options, and delivery methods, it’s important to do your research, and if you need a little extra help, consult with your veterinarian before purchasing a CBD pet product for your dog.
There’s no second-guessing the benefits of a high-quality full-spectrum oil for our furry friends.
If you’re looking for good absorption and bioavailability, consider opting for a veterinary-approved or formulated CBD pet product like our VETCBD Hemp Oil . Our non-intoxicating formulation is always triple-tested by a third-party lab.
Here’s a quick guide on dosage and timing of effects with our hemp oil:
- The dose will depend on the weight and metabolism of your dog – you can reference our dosage chart for more information
- The first dose of CBD lasts 8 to 12 hours on average
- You can administer a second dose 12 hours after the initial dose if needed
- Your pet can usually begin to feel the effects of CBD within 1 to 2 hours
The CBD oil can be easily dropped directly into your pet’s mouth from our pet-safe syringe.
Other CBD Pet Products
Cannabidiol has been shown to have some health benefits for dogs, and is becoming more popular as a viable option in contemporary holistic care. With new pet CBD products popping up every day though, it’s best to consider purchasing CBD from a reputable brand with positive online reviews.
It’s an exciting market that offers pet parents a chance to support health naturally via a nutraceutical with minimal negative effects. While CBD oils will always generally provide the most CBD with the greatest benefits, there are a few other forms of CBD out there available to your pup that you should be aware of.
CBD topicals can be applied to your dog’s skin and help with localized alleviation. Cannabinoids via CBD topicals, when applied to the skin, do not enter the bloodstream. They are transported with CB2 receptors in the skin and then are absorbed locally.
These benefits work as quickly as 10 to 15 minutes and can last for as long as 2 to 4 hours. Topicals are great for irritations like hot spots. They may also help support mobility.
CBD dog chews seem to be everywhere! There are numerous CBD dog chew brands to choose from today, with most starting with 5mg CBD per bite.
Chews are not always as ideal as tinctures as heat reduces some of CBD oil’s benefits during the manufacturing process and are a bit more challenging to accurately dose. You’ll also need to store them away from other pets and children.
Here’s the take on CBD dog chews:
- Made by infusing CBD oil into a chew and baking
- Flavored to make it easier to consume for dogs that are fussy eaters
- Many options that can range from small, soft chews to meat-flavors and tough chews
At VETCBD, our CBD products are veterinarian-formulated ensuring a keen understanding of how the product will benefit your pet. We also offer free veterinary nurse support by phone or email so you can ask any questions and feel comfortable when administering our CBD oil to your pet. Our full spectrum cannabidiol products for animals are made with triple-tested, premium-quality, natural ingredients, without preservatives or additives.
The most common reasons pet parents use VETCBD Hemp are to help maintain calm, support normal joint health, support normal brain function, and help maintain normal GI health.
