The Hippy Seed Company
With the start of a new chilli growing season approaching fast there’s only one place to shop for seeds in my books, THE HIPPY SEED COMPANY. For those who don’t know who Neil is, he’s the owner of probably the most widely known and reliable Chilli Seed Company’s on the market. Since 1998 Neil has been selling seeds and his own brand of chilli sauces. Neil also pionered the whole concept of YouTube Chilli reviews , starting in 2007 Neil has posted over 250 chili review videos.
I visited Neil a few weeks ago to buy some new chili varieties for the new season and to also drop off a sample of my most recent HomeMade Hot Sauce.
On to the fun part of the season, deciding what to grow:
The Hippy Seed Company has a large selection of seeds to choose from, I’ve added links to some of the Seed categories listed on the Hippy Seed Website:
So what did I buy? I’m already growing a decent selection of superhots which I love making sauces with and I figured I might as well add some more to the list.
The first is Neil’s very own chili the NagaBon which is a Bih Jolokia\Scotch Bonnet cross. The first time I ever saw the Nagabon I was blown away by the size of this chili pepper and the volume of pods the plant produces. Neil has grown the Nagabon for a few seasons now so it should be fairly stable. I’ve had a taste of a fresh pod before and the Scotch Bonnet taste stands out which is great as I don’t really rate Bih Jolokia’s taste at all.
The Barrack Pore 7 Pod was second on the Chili Seeds shopping list. If you haven’t seen Neils review check it out Barrack Pore 7 Pod Review it’s a classic. Poor Luke tried a whole pod and was caught off gaurd by what Neils described as one of the hottest 7Pods he’s ever had.
The last lot of seeds I selected was the Yellow Bhut Jolokia’s & some Yellow TS Morouga Seeds. I’ve been growing Fatalii’s for at least four years now and I thought a new yellow chilli pepper variety would be exciting. I had stayed away from the Yellow Bhut due to poor reviews of heat levels from the first generation pods. Neil said that he was suprised by the heat level of the Yellow Bhuts the last time he ate one in the garden. The Yellow Bhuts produce large pods for a super hot so I’m already planning to make a Yellow Bhut puree from my first lot of pods for this season.
