What’s the Deal With CBD Shampoo?

By now, it’s likely that you own something with CBD in it. From lotions and potions to supplements and oils, CBD is the buzzy ingredient that burst onto the scene and made its way into just about everything. Touting purported benefits like anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to quell the overproduction of sebaceous oil, it’s become especially popular in skincare, with brands like Lord Jones , Prima , and Saint Jane crafting products infused with cannabidiol.

More recently, CBD has found its way into hair care with several brands creating shampoos, conditioners, and oils aimed at soothing sensitive scalps through the use of the hemp-derived ingredient. But do you really need to add CBD to your haircare line-up, or is this just another gimmick to get the popular ingredient into yet another product?

If you’re skeptical (I initially was), you have a right to be. CBD in haircare—and skincare, for that matter—is fairly new, which means there isn’t a ton of science yet available to back up the claims certain products make. What’s more, there’s little regulation around these claims at this time. Still, I couldn’t help but be curious about the use of CBD in haircare—specifically CBD shampoo—since I recently tested it out and saw promising results. To get to the bottom of CBD shampoos (and other hair products), we tapped three hair experts to give us the scoop.
