Why Eat Marijuana Seeds: 5 Key Health Benefits to Know About

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the growth of industrial hemp in the United States. However, it depends on individual states submitting details of a hemp program to the government. Nonetheless, the law ended the 81-year prohibition of hemp.

What’s absurd is that early colonists in America were legally required to grow the crop! In 1619, Jamestown colony law decreed that all settlers had to cultivate Indian hemp. This legislation remained in place for centuries. Between 1763 and 1769, refusing to grow hemp in Virginia meant you could go to jail! It was only in the 20 th century that the crop became outlawed. Even then, the nation grew it during World War II.

Were they doing this to get high? No. (Maybe some of them were.)

Instead, they were cultivating hemp for the boundless nutritional components of the seed. They also knew about its use for the construction/textile components of the stalk and stem. During that era, people used hemp fibers to make rope, paper, clothes, etc.

Here is a quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson: “Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth and protection of the country.”

Unlike hemp, cannabis remains federally illegal. Even so, many Americans are finding a way to incorporate marijuana seeds into their diet. They are doing so for the same reasons those colonists did in the 17th century.

In this article, we go over five key health benefits of marijuana seeds. We also outline why you should establish them as a staple part of your daily nutritional intake.

EDITOR’S CHOICE – Homegrown CannabisCo

Homegrown CannabisCo are the masters when it comes to seeds. Offering a massive variety of cannabis seeds that are well categorized, not only does this company create a resource for superb quality options including feminized seeds, it also provides extensive growing information for those looking for some support along their journey.

First Things First: A Brief Background on Marijuana Seeds and Their Uses

When we say “marijuana seeds,” we mean cannabis seeds in general. In terms of essential nutritional benefits, there is no discernible difference between a hemp seed and a cannabis seed. The seeds of marijuana do not contain cannabinoids; you find those in the flower, stems, stalks, and leaves.

There is a big difference in potential medicinal properties between the seeds of the cannabis/hemp plant, and the plant material.

Most of marijuana’s medicinal properties come from the presence of active cannabinoids and certain terpenes, flavonoids, etc. Since marijuana seeds don’t have cannabinoids, we don’t use them for medicinal/therapeutic purposes.

However, what they lack in “therapeutic cannabinoids,” they more than make up for in general health and nutritional benefits. Their omega acid and protein content, for example, is nearly second to none in terms of plant-derived foods.

You will find hemp seed products in grocery stores and health food outlets. However, marijuana seeds remain classified as a cannabis product. Therefore, their legality depends on where you live. We urge you not to buy them if you don’t live in a legal state. You are better off sticking with hemp seeds in that instance.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the top five reasons why you should eat marijuana seeds.

Can You Eat Marijuana Seeds? Yes, You Can… Here are the Top 5 Reasons Why You SHOULD!

1) High in Natural, Easy-to-Digest Protein

Most nutritional experts claim that plant-based proteins are healthier and easier for the body to digest than animal-based proteins. A study by Budhathoki et al., published in JAMA in August 2019, compared animal and plant protein consumption.

The researchers looked at the health records of more than 130,000 people over thirty years. They found that individuals who did not consume animal protein had “substantially lower death rates than meat-eaters.” Also, for every 3% increase in plant protein-calorie intake, the risk of death was reduced by 10%.

Marijuana seeds are one of the best sources of natural, plant-based protein that you can find. This is why farmers all over the world used cannabis seed “mash” to nourish their livestock before it became illegal. It’s also why bodybuilding hemp seed protein powder is becoming more popular.

It is (probably) why world-class fighters like Ronda Rousey start their morning off with a dose of hemp hearts before hitting the gym.

2) Can Help You Lose (or Gain) Weight!

Cannabis seed-based diets could help people gain or lose weight. Marijuana seeds are full of vitamins (particularly Vitamin E) and minerals (including potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and zinc). They also contain protein and can keep you fuller for longer.

On the flip side, they’re also good for helping to gain weight healthily due to these same nutritional characteristics. Whether you want a filling snack or a superb supplement to add or maintain lean muscle mass, cannabis seeds are worth a try. They have a pleasant ‘nutty’ flavor that can add zest to healthy snacks like salads and plain yogurt.

3) Crucial Omega Fatty Acid Content

Human beings do not naturally produce Omega fatty acids like Omega 3 and 6. Therefore, we have to consume them from outside sources. However, some say hemp seeds have the most abundant source of natural Omega acids in the entire plant kingdom. This means they have more than Chia seeds, walnuts, and flaxseed.

Omega-3 fatty acids help promote a healthy brain and heart. The omegas are also amino acids that are essential for protein production.

Offering a massive variety of cannabis seeds that are well categorized, not only does this company create a resource for superb quality options including feminized seeds, it also provides extensive growing information for those looking for some support along their journey.

4) They Are REALLY Good for Your Heart

Marijuana seeds are heart-healthy because diets high in Omega acids reduce blood pressure. You also benefit from a lower risk of stroke-inducing blood clot formation and increased overall cardiovascular function.

The presence of arginine in cannabis seeds causes blood vessels to relax and dilate. As a result, you benefit from reduced blood pressure and lower risk of a heart attack. Indeed, your risk of contracting other forms of cardiovascular disease also drops. Some reports claim that hemp seeds help the heart recover after a heart attack.

Finally, the gamma-linoleic acid that’s abundant in marijuana can reduce the production of specific proteins that result in inflammation. This is particularly the case with inflammation of the heart and surrounding cardiovascular tissue.

5) Disease Prevention and Whole-Body Wellness

Consuming marijuana seeds regularly is potentially a great way to prevent disease and promote general health and whole-body wellness.

Their cardiovascular benefits could reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other psychological conditions. In theory, then, cannabis seeds could promote mental health and well-being as much as they do physical.

By the way, marijuana seeds are one of the only plant-based food sources that contain every single amino acid required for human survival! Some nutritional gurus claim these seeds are the most “nutritionally complete food source in the world.”

How Can You Eat Marijuana Seeds?

It’s not that difficult! You can eat marijuana seeds raw, cooked, shelled, or unshelled. You don’t have to prepare or otherwise process them to reap the health and nutrition benefits.

However, they are a lot more enjoyable when you make a little ‘meal’ out of them, instead of consuming them raw.

One of our favorite ways to eat hemp seeds is to roast them. Then, we combine them with a crunchy, plant-based snack. For example, kale chips make for a fantastic combination.

A lot of people also like to make a non-psychoactive “ganja tea.” You can do this by roasting the hemp seeds first. Then, put them in boiling water along with some of your favorite spices. You can also increase the “nutritional potency” of the tea by including your cannabis stems and dried leaves in the infusion.

You can sprinkle shelled marijuana seeds on top of different kinds of foods to spice them up. Examples include oatmeal, quinoa, yogurt, hummus, salads, and smoothies. You could press the raw seeds for oil, or grind them into a fine powder for flour, protein supplement, or milk. You will need specialized equipment for this technique, however.

Final Thoughts: Health Benefits of Eating Cannabis Seeds

It’s important to distinguish between medicinal cannabis-based products (i.e., CBD oils), and marijuana seeds. The former contains cannabinoids and comes from the leaves, flowers, stems, and stalk of the plant. The latter is consumed purely for their nutritional/health benefits. You will not experience an intoxicating high with cannabis seeds. Please note that these seeds remain illegal in states without a medical or recreational marijuana law.

The next time you decide to toss away “useless” marijuana seeds from the weed you’re about to use, stop!

Put them aside and make a smoothie out of them. Alternatively, grind them and sprinkle over a salad. You could even pop them into your mouth like you’re eating some sunflower seeds. If you make a habit out of this, your body will thank you in the long run!

10 Amazing Medical Benefits of Cannabis

In the 19th century, everyone had cannabinoids available in their medicine chests. What then followed were decades of repression, fuelled by propaganda and lobbying. However, the world is on the brink of rediscovering cannabis as a medicine. Whether taken to combat pain, loss of appetite or inflammation, cannabis has the potential to combat the symptoms of many ailments.

Big, blond, super-fit and with a piercing stare from ice-blue eyes – Kyle Turley is a picture-book athlete. But appearances can be deceptive, because like many other professional athletes, he suffers from a range of health issues, such as headaches, depression, concussion and sleep disorders. For many years, he tried to manage these problems with a mixture of painkillers and psychiatric drugs. With zero success.

Things only started to improve when he stopped taking all his medications and started using marijuana instead. “It saved my life,” says Turley in the magazine Men’s Journal. More and more people are reporting experiences similar to his. They are turning to nature rather than pharmaceuticals.

There is one definite advantage: Occasional and low cumulative marijuana use was not associated with adverse effects on pulmonary function. This has been confirmed by a study by the University of California, carried out among a group of 5000 adults over 20 years.

But of course, all that glistens is not gold, and this applies to cannabis, too. We recently reported on Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome. Cannabis consumption undeniably carries a certain risk.

But there is barely any other medicine that can be used for so many illnesses. Here, we focus on 10 fantastic medical benefits of cannabis.

1. Cannabis combats pain

Countless patient reports and studies confirm the pain-relieving (analgesic) properties of cannabis. Definitive evidence that cannabinoids are effective in treating chronic pain comes in a report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. It is based on one of the most comprehensive studies ever conducted into cannabis.

Most people take medicinal marijuana as pain relief. In particular, patients suffering from cancer, migraines or multiple sclerosis (MS) report positive experiences.

2. Cannabis relieves nausea and stimulates the appetite

HIV is not a death sentence anymore. Yet even the most successful antiretroviral therapies come with a series of unpleasant side effects. These include nausea and loss of appetite.

3. Cannabis can replace opiates

The USA is currently afflicted by the biggest drug epidemic in its history. Every day, approximately 100 people die from an overdose of opioids such as heroin or fentanyl, and there is no end in sight.

Medicinal cannabis offers a glimmer of hope. It can reduce the need for opiate-based painkillers. For many addicts, cannabis also alleviates withdrawal symptoms.

4. Cannabis may slow the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease

Even very small quantities of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) can help reduce the symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease. The most common cannabinoids have long been claimed to have neuroprotective properties. Because Alzheimer’s is associated with inflammation of the immune system, cannabidiol (CBD) may also play a part in its treatment.

5. Cannabis eases inflammation

Naturopaths have been using marijuana to treat inflammation for thousands of years. The British company GW Pharmaceutical developed Sativex on the back of various pieces of research. This cannabis-based mouth spray has been successfully used in the treatment of the painful muscular cramps that can be triggered by multiple sclerosis.

6. Cannabis is effective against sleep disorders and nightmares

We all suffer from insomnia from time to time, counting sheep and still unable to fall asleep. Occasional insomnia is part of life, but when sleep disorders become chronic, they rapidly cause problems for the person affected. Many resort to sleeping pills which, while effective, are controversial, mainly because people can become addicted to them.

One physician’s opinion, Dr Michael Moskowitz, psychiatrist and scientific author, prefers to prescribe his patients a plant-based alternative. “I’d rather have someone on a high THC tincture at night than on Lunesta, Ambien or any such hypnotic sleeping pill. Cannabis is the best sleep medicine that I have ever used on patients.”

7. Cannabis reduces the frequency of tics in Tourette’s patients

Tourette Syndrome is a neuropsychiatric disorder that manifests itself in physical and vocal tics. It typically involves socially unacceptable comments, which can be very awkward for the person affected.

Several studies are researching the effectiveness of cannabis for Tourette sufferers. As well as reducing the frequency of tics, it is notable for its capacity to reduce anxiety and aid sleep.

8. Cannabis helps Parkinson’s patients in many respects

Parkinson’s occurs when the nerve cells in a certain part of the brain die off. After Alzheimer’s, it is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Parkinson’s initially affects motor skills, followed by mental and psychological symptoms such as dementia and depression.

Cannabis can be a blessing for many Parkinson’s patients. Many report feeling fitter and happier, and suffer fewer tremors (shaking) and less stiffness.

See for yourself what cannabis is capable of:

9. Cannabis relieves convulsions

Anyone interested in the medicinal potential of cannabis will inevitably come across the story of Charlotte Figi. It is the story of a young girl who, thanks to a CBD-rich cannabis strain, was able to manage her epileptic attacks.

The anti-convulsive properties of cannabis have long been known. The first scientific references to this date back to 1947. The precise mechanism behind this is still being researched.

10. Cannabis reduces intraocular pressure

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that, in extreme cases, can lead to blindness. Increased pressure in the eye is a deciding risk factor in many cases.

Cannabis-based eye drops known as Canasol offer a remedy. An exceptionally perfidious type of glaucoma, known as angle-closure glaucoma, also includes strong pain in the eyeball. The broad effectiveness of cannabis as a painkiller, muscle relaxant and mood enhancer improves the situation of many patients.

I think the benefits of cannabis is now there for everyone to see,
the pharmaceutical industry wants to keep us using their products, so they influence the decision.
Governments throughout the world make a lot of money from them, so to legalize would cost them a lot of money. So, it is not about a sensible decision, it is all about MONEY.

Today a friend had posted on facebook a list of prescription medicines that cannibis could replace…I saw one of which my daughters doctor had prescribed..”Zoloft” and a few others. I am prescribed xanax and would much rather smoke a joint than this because it is natural. I cannot take any antidepressants whatsoever because of the horrible side effects they have..anyhow..my daughter is taking wellbutrin, effexor, and atarax..she has been diagnosed with OCD,Major depression and body dismorphic disorder. I so hate all of these meds she has to take…it takes a while to find the right combo..she was just switched to effexor in place of paxil..havent started this combo yet..today..and im truly worried..She is fifteen, has suicidal thoughts…she is absolutely beautiful. .and im not just saying that because shes my daughter..she has been bullied at school because she is so pretty..and on and on…I am 49,a single mother ..and Ya know I told a friemd the other day..Id rather for her to be able to smoke some medicinal cannibus..have that prescribed instead of all this crap she is taking..Ifirmly believe that would cure her…I just had to put in my two cents i guess. So ready to throw my hands up and say its ok ya know…she has done it with a friend a few times and told me it helped her…and…I BELEIVE HER. But of course like you say..some are not as open minded as we’d like them to be. ZOLOFT made my daughter so suicidal she cutthe inside of her arm from wrist to bend of her arm with a razor the day after coming home from a suicide prevention center who put her on the zoloft the 2nd day and upped it twice within 9 days from 100mg to 300mg and 25mg. To 100mg,. Of trazadone at night..I hope they legalize this soon where i live cuz i swear id much rather her do that then all these meds..Of course Id want it to be controlled by her doc and prescribed…but i dont think Im alone on this. Its hard fo see your kids go thru something so hard and not know how to help…ya try and try ,sorry..I guess I needed to get that out. Sincerely..M..

Just over 2 yrs ago I had a brain haemorrhage that went undiagnosed for a week
I kept being told it was migraine
Luckily my better half is a nurse and after my 4th visit to the GP she refused to leave his office until he’d arranged a scan for me
He did, they found the bleed
Anyway, back to my point
For that week I had a horrendous headache so was smoking quite a lot of weed to help with the pain and try to get some sleep
My specialist told me later that he’s firmly of the belief that the cannabis helped save my life due to it lowering my blood pressure
Handy when you’re walking around with a brain haemorrhage
That and the missus refusing to take no for an answer too
Natures medicine for a multitude of ailments ?

Thank you for your comment and for sharing your experience, that’s really amazing and I’m very glad that your specialist was so honest about cannabis helping to save your life! I hope your health is good now and that you and your better half continue to enjoy the blog.

“This is so well known to every good housewife in the country, that I shall not need to write any description of it.”
But for me, its anti-spasmodic properties are the most life saving – it stops my epilepsy ? for which I will be eternally grateful.
Best, A

What are the benefits of eating cannabis seeds?

Cannabis sativa belongs to industrial hemp. Each part of the plant offers many advantages:

  • Flower: has powerful medicinal and mood-changing properties
  • Seeds: are rich in essential fatty acids and vegetable amino acids, which are necessary for the body.
  • Stalk: belong to the most substantial natural production source of industrial fibres worldwide
  • Roots & leaves: enrich the soil with valuable nutrients so that a farmer can allow several cannabis plants to flourish per season.

With the rise of CBD products, we are now able to order and buy weed seeds in UK with some of the best companies and online stores such as SensorySeeds.com.

Besides, the cannabis plant is straightforward to grow. It withstands harsh winter months and thrives in almost any setting without pesticides and herbicides. But keep in mind that growing cannabis in the UK is still illegal!

Cannabis seeds’ special features

Hemp seeds are the small seeds of the hemp seed plant Cannabis sativa. They have an olive-green, glossy protective cover, a white pulp and are about 2-4mm long and wide.

In contrast to the Indian hemp Cannabis indica (also known as marijuana), cannabis seeds and hemp oil from Cannabis sativa are not intoxicating. The Cannabis sativa plant contains only a tiny amount (less than 0.2%) or no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) at all.

Cannabis indica, on the other hand, plays a significant role in the manufacture of drugs and medicine.

Healthy cannabis seeds

Cannabis seeds strengthen the immune system, promote the elimination of toxins and support the healing process. They provide all of the essential amino acids that the human body cannot produce on its own, thereby increasing the building and repair of cells and reducing the susceptibility to disease.

Cannabis seeds are also rich in healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The human body needs both fatty acids for various cellular processes. They lower harmful triglycerides, promote heart health, boost immune activity, improve digestion, are suitable for the brain, and increase physical energy.

The body also uses the omega 6 fatty acids as a building block for anti-inflammatory hormones and supports the healing process of eczema, asthma, acne, allergies, fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids also make it easier to burn fat, lower the bad cholesterol level and ensure shiny hair, beautiful skin and healthy nails.

Cannabis seeds also contain a lot of vitamin E, various minerals and trace elements (such as zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus), digestive fibre, antioxidants, chlorophyll and immune-supporting secondary plant substances.

Vitamin E and zinc have an antioxidant effect and protect the cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. Iron helps distribute oxygen-rich red blood cells throughout the body, and magnesium plays a massive role in hundreds of chemical reactions in the body.

The complex nutritional composition in cannabis seeds helps eliminate unwanted toxins from the body and stimulate fat burning. At the same time, the creation of a hormonal balance is supported, and a high cholesterol level is lowered.

In contrast to some whey or protein shakes, the protein in the hemp seeds is easily digestible for most. Whey and various protein shake often lead to air pockets and gas in the intestines.

The vegetable protein in cannabis seeds is easy to digest and, unlike soy products, does not contain any phytic acid.

Cannabis seed effects

1. Hemp seeds promote the regeneration of the muscles

After a strenuous exercise, the body is often over-acidic. The various minerals and vitamin E in cannabis seeds help to bring the body’s pH back into balance, and the essential fats have anti-inflammatory effects and support the regeneration and healing process of small muscle cells.

The muscle can regenerate faster, muscle soreness can be reduced, and the acidification of the body can be balanced out.

2. Hemp seeds increase testosterone levels

Testosterone is an important muscle stimulating hormone. It promotes muscle growth and muscle activity.

Besides, cannabis seeds contain various nutrients that support the function and production of testosterone.

With the help of the magnesium in cannabis seeds, testosterone is released from the binding protein SHBG and becomes bioavailable to the body. It increases the level of testosterone in the blood and promotes muscle growth.

Aspartic acid is a non-essential amino acid found in cannabis seeds and is used in the production of signaling molecules. These molecules promote testosterone levels and the number of sperm in the male body.

Cannabis seeds provide magnesium and aspartic acid in large quantities.

3. Cannabis seeds provide energy

Cannabis seeds provide more energy if 4 tablespoons of raw hemp seeds are eaten with fresh fruit in the morning, productivity and the ability to concentrate increase.

Cannabis seeds contain special fats that increase brain performance and proteins that stimulate cell activity. Both serve as a good source of energy for the body and reduce the need for other stimulants, such as coffee, sugar, chocolate, energy drinks or other sugary drinks.

4. Cannabis seeds improve memory

The brain needs various fats and vitamins to function optimally. The omega-3 fatty acids in cannabis seeds are converted through several processes in the body and used as an essential source of energy for the brain and the entire nervous system.

It improves memory and mood and reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression. Regular consumption of cannabis seeds can also reduce the risk of diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

5. Cannabis seeds help you lose weight

The combination of nutrients in cannabis seeds ensures a faster feeling of satiety, increases metabolism, reduces cravings for sweets and increases motivation for training and physical activity. The fats they contain also help burn fat, and the fibre helps to excrete more toxins, making it easier to lose weight.

In conclusion cannabis seeds have many beneficial properties and we hope that over time they will be more appreciated and marketed, so that more people can easily include them in their daily diet. It is now easy to find them online as on the Sensoryseed shop and we hope that over time they will become more and more known by lovers of healfy food.
